Imagine for a moment a common scene from our modern shopping centers. You know that corner full of green plants with comfortable armchairs, permanently occupied by teenagers. They are lightheartedly connected to free electricity, using high-speed Wi-Fi, smiling, and having instant access to all the world's information. For us, it is a complete certainty.

And now, imagine the harsh reality of children in areas affected by extreme poverty and war. Often both together. Their daily reality is a brutal systemic degradation. Boys are forced to leave their school desks for miserable, slave labor in the fields, and girls, with the onset of puberty, permanently lose access to education, often simply because they have to carry wood and water.

In dark schools, there is often a lack of running water and safe toilets. These children have absolutely no tools or information on how to face extreme climate change, nor how to secure a livelihood in the future. They lack what every child considers a given, water, electricity, internet. We can change that.

ELECTRICITY AS THE FOUNDATION OF MODERN EDUCATION

We implemented the first school projects for war-torn Ukraine. We supplied off-grid power sources and complete classroom equipment to underground schools, because the originals had been destroyed by bombs. We discovered that this off-grid system becomes a massive engine for innovation if you can add one trivial thing, the internet.

Every off-grid system can be easily taken and gradually expanded. While light and heat in underground school shelters are essential for Ukraine, for children in Africa, there is a need to connect water filtration and the internet. Once children gain access to an outlet where they can charge their phones and connect to the global information network, they hold the most powerful tool humanity has ever invented, access to information. Adaptation to climate change, better harvests, or information on how babies are born and what menstruation is, we can easily provide all of this. It is the key to their survival and a normal life.

We want to take this "shopping center Wi-Fi corner" effect and create it directly in their classrooms, only with one difference. By doing so, we will provide the conditions for a dignified human life. We will build Oases of Education.

There are 730 million people in the world living without electricity, and more than half of primary schools in the least developed countries operate in total darkness. Added to this is a deep technological and infrastructural canyon, more than 500 million students have no internet access at school, and 1.3 billion children lack a connection even at home. At the same time, a staggering 447 million children do not even have access to basic drinking water in their schools.

Our solution is strictly modular and is based on pilot programs tested in war-torn Ukraine, as well as on the experience of partner organizations that care for specific schools in developing countries. Thanks to direct agreements with manufacturers, all we need is a mere thousand dollars for a basic energy set, through which we can gradually improve the Oases of Education.

Impacts

Once an Oasis of Education is established, its impact on the surroundings is enormous and factually proven. Thanks to solar charging stations directly in schools, the need for child slave labor is eliminated. Pilot data from Africa prove that the mere possibility of charging a school power bank raises average attendance by more than 11 %. The time devoted to evening reading and preparation then grows from less than 10 % to nearly 50 %.

By installing modular water treatment plants with reverse osmosis, a technology we successfully deployed thanks to donors in the Hope 2026 program in Ukraine, we remove not only bacteria and viruses, but also salts and other dangerous substances. Since children demonstrably suffer from malnutrition or die due to diarrhea and poor hygiene, the impact of any such treatment plant is far-reaching.

Furthermore, with access to the internet, the entire community gains economic freedom. Knowledge of technology and the ability to search for information brings children a so-called digital wage premium. This increases their future income by tens of percent and provides them with the necessary tools to protect themselves from drought and harsh climate fluctuations.

Risks

We owe you honesty. We have dozens of successful projects behind us, but that does not mean that everything we do succeeds. On the contrary, every success is paved by several failed attempts and errors.

Implementing any project in developing countries and war-torn areas is not without risk. Help can get lost along the way, be destroyed, stolen, or simply used for other purposes. We have already experienced all of this, and that is why we have a system that eliminates some of these risks.

  • We have joined forces directly with system manufacturers. Thanks to this, we have unrivaled prices for solar panels, battery storage, and water treatment plants. Assembly and inspection are handled by our partner organization.
  • We handle the transport ourselves, or we have a partner directly in the location who oversees the handover. Even though it is a significant part of the costs, up to 20%, it is the only way to keep the projects under control.
  • In areas we do not know, we work with specific smaller organizations that already support schools in the given region. This creates a network of contacts who trust each other, and we can rely on the fact that a specific school is under long-term supervision.

Although we cannot yet guarantee operation "forever and ever," we know that this mission stands on solid foundations and makes sense.

This is precisely why our Oases of Education are designed as resilient, off-grid, and modular units. We intentionally do not rely on fragile state networks, which are prone not only to failures, but also to corruption.

Will I receive a donation receipt?

Within the Patronito ecosystem, we issue two types of documents. As soon as your payment is processed, you will automatically receive a receipt based on the location where you are making the payment. In the Czech Republic, this is a tax-deductible “Donation Receipt”. When supporting projects on international versions, you receive a “Transaction Confirmation”. This confirmation serves as an official document proving that your funds went directly toward supporting our projects, and in the case of the Donation Receipt, also as a tax-deductible document.

How does project funding work?

As a non-profit organization, we implement projects that address specific challenges of today's world. We carry out these projects in cooperation with local partners, our Guarantors. If you decide to donate funds, you choose the specific project you want to support. We then release your donations in the form of grants directly for the implementation of these selected initiatives.

What if the project does not reach 100 % funding?

At Patronito, not everyone can apply for support. We carefully vet all grant applications and published projects before launch. If the full amount is not raised, we use a milestone system, which allows us to implement the project in parts and take it as far as the funds allow. Each milestone can thus be partially funded. We work in demanding conditions, in areas of conflict and humanitarian crises. Should a situation arise where a project cannot be implemented even partially, we will use your donations for another project in the same category. This ensures that your help has exactly the impact you intended.

Excellent question. In the non-profit sector, operating expenses often consume up to 30% of funds. That is not the case with us. To ensure the operation of the platform, payment of bank fees, administrative costs associated with the project, servers, and development, we allocate only 10% of the collected funds. This ensures essential operations, and the rest is invested directly into specific projects. If you decide to provide a “Tip” as part of your donation, these funds serve as a reward for the team and for the further development of the organization.

How is Patronito different?

The Patronito platform was created because, after years in the humanitarian sector, we felt we wanted to do more than just constantly put out the most serious fires. Most platforms are built on raising funds for individual misfortunes and fates, which is perfectly fine. However, we decided to look for concrete solutions to the causes of the problem as a whole. Securing treatment for one sick child is great, but developing a cure for all children suffering from the same disease is, in our view, more important. It may not stir as much emotion, but the impact of the funds spent can be many times greater. Patronito is a community that does not want to repair a single shack, but strives to change the lives of all residents of a slum. These are the types of projects we want to focus on, and we will be happy if you join us.

We offer all Patrons a Donation Value Guarantee up to $100, or the value of donations in the last 12 months (whichever is lower), if it is proven that a specific project involved fraud or intentional deception by the Guarantor, who committed to follow the terms and conditions and the code of ethics.
